Dr Tiba Bonyad Speaks at the University of Oslo on Islamic Family Law in Sweden

On the 9th of October 2025, Dr Tiba Bonyad, Postdoctoral Researcher on the BILQIS project, delivered a talk at the University of Oslo titled “Navigating Islamic Family Law in Sweden: Afghan and Iranian Women’s Pursuit of Justice in Diaspora.”
The session explored how Afghan and Iranian Shia Muslim women navigate Islamic family law in Sweden, drawing on ongoing qualitative fieldwork and grounded in decolonial feminist approaches. Dr Rubya Mehdi (University of Copenhagen) joined as discussant, offering reflections based on her extensive work on gender, Islam, and legal pluralism.
