Micheál Sweeney - INTERN

Biography

Micheál Sweeney is a second year undergraduate student at University College Dublin, currently pursuing a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics. Micheál is supporting the BILQIS project through an internship, gaining practical experience to compliment his academic work on Religion and Society. 

Abriana Malfatti - INTERN

 

 

Abriana Malfatti is a rising second-year student at the University of Cincinnati College of law. She is externing for BILQIS this summer through a program offered by the Urban Morgan Institute for Human Rights. Abriana is actively involved in her law school serving on the editorial staff for the Human Rights Quarterly and participating in the international law society where she will serve as Vice President next year.

She graduated magna cum laude from the Ohio State University with majors in political science and criminal justice and a minor in legal foundations. Abriana is an avid reader and you will find her in her free time reading any book she can possibly get her hands on.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Emilia Kartsonas - INTERN

Biography

Emi is a third-year undergraduate student at the University of Notre Dame pursuing a degree in Neuroscience and Behavior with minors in Gender Studies and Business Economics. She is also a Glynn Family Honors Program scholar. This spring, she is a visiting student at the University of Galway.

Emi is a Melsheimer fellow at the Klau Institute for Civil and Human Rights at the University of Notre Dame, a role that has allowed her to volunteer with local organizations committed to protecting civil and human rights in the South Bend community. In her time on campus she has also been involved with the Institute for Social Concerns through seminars, classes, and immersive trips dedicated to exploring questions about justice, equity, and the common good.

Emi supported the BILQIS project at the Irish Centre for Human Rights in semester 2 of the AY 2024/2025. 

Aysha Liyana KC - INTERN

Biography

Aysha Liyana KC is a passionate advocate for equity and inclusion, currently pursuing an Erasmus Mundus Masters in Social and Cultural Psychology. Aysha completed her first semester at ISCTE University Institute of Lisbon and is now at the University of Limerick, specializing in the Psychology of Global Mobility, Inclusion, and Diversity in Society (Global MINDS.eu).

Aysha is a member of the steering committee of the University of Limerick Ethnic Diversity Forum, where she actively contributes to promoting race equality on campus and developing policies that foster inclusion, respect, safety, and fairness for all students. She has also worked as a Social Media Consultant for the Mariwala Health Initiative, an advocacy organization focused on the mental health of marginalized communities in India.

Aysha supported the BILQIS project through an internship at the Irish Centre for Human Rights in the autumn semester of the AY 2024/2025. Her research focuses on Muslim women’s access to justice in Europe, particularly emphasizing women’s representation in legal bodies from a social-psychological perspective.
